Spiritual Care Intern? What’s That?

I had a colleague once tell me, “the doctors in my hospital don’t really know what we do when we go into a room”. They have a patient in distress, and they just say, “go in and work your magic”. It’s not magic, in fact almost anyone can learn the skills required to be a competent spiritual caregiver. Many community organizations do not have a history of spiritual care providers in their context. They have no idea what our students are there to do. The student interns have to help educate the staff and clients about their role, even as they are learning to live into it. One student in this second cohort made a short 5-minute video to introduce herself, talk about her role and offer a brief strategy for relieving anxiety. Check out her good work on our Youtube page: https://youtu.be/rbBrtSgjpK4.
